Jo and Brian master the gentle arts

CONGRATULATIONS to Jo Garcia and Brian McCann for achieving their Shodan black belts in traditional Goju Ryu Karate-do at a special black belt grading held in Cleveland recently.
Jo began his training with Dr Denis Arthy over eight years ago in the practical arts of self-defence which included Goju Ryu Karate-do, Judo, Jujitsu and Tai Chi Chuan-do.
Brian had previously studied Goju Ryu Karate-do in Perth up until four years ago when he transferred his employment to live in Cleveland and began his training at the Gentle Arts of Self Defence School with Sensei Arthy.
Dr Arthy has a strong view that traditional forms of self-defence can be taught to people of all ages suitably geared to the needs, abilities and interests of each student.
With this in mind, and with the assistance of Jo and Brian, he has now agreed to offer a new class and foundation program on Wednesday evenings open to those interested in a traditional approach to Asian martial arts where the focus is not training for competition, tournaments or trophies but on a practical self-defence, developing self-confidence, mutual benefit and cooperation through respect for oneself and for others.
While the minimum age is now 17 years, the class is also suitable for older adults.
